Building My First Gaming PC
It’s been a hot minute since I’ve posted on my blog and I’ve wanted to start posting periodically again. I didn’t realize people still check back to see if I’ve posted. I finally built a PC back in December and thought it was a great excuse to make a post about it. Here is my PC Part Picker list. Some items aren’t available anymore since computer part world moves at lightning speed.
If you’re considering building a PC and afraid to do it, fear not. There are millions of videos on YouTube and different posts online. The Provoked Prawn has been my favorite since he has a ton demo videos for thousands of different products. One last thing- I saved about $800-$1,000 by doing this in November/December since there were an insane amount of sales.
Finally acquired all of the pieces
For some reason setting up the motherboard was the scariest part. You take your tiny little CPU that cost a pretty penny and have to lock it in place with the lever. Then you move onto placing your sticks of RAM and make sure you put those in right or you’ll break them. After that you put in storage and that wasn’t a problem. The actual tricky part was putting on the CPU cooler. It has thermal paste on the back and you only have one shot to get it onto the CPU otherwise you have to start all over with the thermal paste. Finally you have to screw the motherboard into your case with all of these fragile parts. Just spare yourself and get the extendable go go gadget screwdriver.
It went pretty smooth from there installing fans and slapping in the graphics card with the support bar. Now for the fun part. Plugging everything in and organizing the cables…sorta. The B650 only has 2 USB fan headers, so I could only use one strimer and the other was for my fan hub. Luckily Liam Li has come out with wireless strimers, so now I have the GPU and MoBo strimers hooked up. Looks way better.
Just a minor mess.
Moment of truth…first boot up
SUCCESS. Now to spend hours being aggravated by installing windows, trying to get wifi enabled, and downloading drivers. Spare yourself the aggravation and just buy the ethernet cable. I break it out for steam sales and download a bunch of games in less than 10 minutes.
Here is my case with the 2 new wireless Lian Li strimers added in. Here’s my spec list if you didn’t want to go to my PC Part Picker list for the basics.
CPU - 7800X3D
GPU - 7900 XT
Mobo - Asus ROG STRIX B650E
RAM - G Skill Trident G5 RGB DDR5
Case - NZXT H9 Flow
If you’re on Steam, feel free to add me!
Thanks for following along hooligans. I’m heading to Japan in a few weeks, so keep an eye out for a few posts about that trip.
